Player Haven FAQs Frequently Asked Questions and other assorted commentary.
What is this site? Player Haven was created to fill a couple of simple needs. The first was to allow people to find their friends (or enemies) across the various MMORPG games now that they are becoming more popular.
Anything else? Of course. Our latest pride and joy is HavenMatch, a dedicated matchmaking service for the MMORPG community. There's also Library area to house excellent writings authored by fellow gamers (aka 'fan fiction'), a Scam warning area, the obligatory Links area, and a few games that we developed, Haven War being the most popular by far.
Is this site owned by (insert famous or infamous company here)?? Absolutely not. This site is a privately owned 'fan site' dedicated to the players moreso than making money. We did form a company to cover our butts, however. Haven Web Services, LLC. We're rather excited since this will give us more flexibility to expand the site and create other Haven sites that we hope might prove useful.
But you have ads? Yes, we have ads. We don't have deep pockets (see above about not being owned by any famous companies), so we do have a couple of ad spots on the site. In the case of the Google bar (when active), we only get paid if users click on something. Anyone not liking ads will have the option at some point to donate a certain amount to the site's operation and we'll turn the ads off for them. We haven't decided on an amount that is fair to the user (and to us) as of yet.
But you have ads for gold sellers? Isn't that immoral? We welcome all advertisers that might have a market base in our MMORPG community. Originally, we used to be a steadfast opponent of all things virtual-commerce. This did not get us very far with any advertisers. If we wanted ads, we'd have to have some virtual-commerce sites in those ads. There was no way around it. Furthermore, recent surveys have suggested that the overall MMORPG community really doesn't care one way or the other anymore. If people want to spend their real money on virtual items, so be it.
How do I add my characters to the registry? Access the Registry via the left panel. Click on My Profile underneath Game Resources. From there you can add your characters.
How do my friends find me / how do I find my friends' characters on here? There is a 'Find Character' option along the left menu in the same Game Resources area. Type in the name or partial name of their character name and, if they are in our database, they will be displayed.
How do they find me in other games that I have registered characters on here? Within a character profile, it shows which Haven account owns it, if any. Clicking that will bring up their account Profile, showing all registered characters across all Haven databases. This is the same profile you will see when you choose My Profile along the left menu, with an added link to send you Site Mail.
What is HavenMatch? HavenMatch is our answer to a personals / matchmaking service. There are other dedicated matchmaking service and don't get us wrong, they are great. However, if you are matched up with a non-gamer, it's difficult, sometimes embarassing to explain why you love to play MMORPGs so much.
HavenMatch eliminates this embarassment by being located on a site dedicated to MMORPGs to begin with. Anyone that signs up with the service should expect that anyone they are matched with will not only understand their love for MMORPGs, but share in that same love.
MMORPGs also give unique opportunities to get to know someone in a virtual environment. Those people that match each other can communicate further in their MMORPG of choice and get to know each other in a safe environment that is comfortable to both parties.
What does it cost? Like the rest of PlayerHaven, our HavenMatch service is free. We're hoping for advertisers or site donations to keep up with the increased costs that HavenMatch will no doubt bring us.
What is Haven War? Back in the 80's, the Internet wasn't the place to be for fledgeling online communities. Various Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs) provided these services of message boards, email, games, downloads, etc. Among the games on these BBSs were a few 'build & conquer' type games that were very popular (at least to us). Haven War was created as a tribute to those old games. It has evolved a bit from its original creation, and seems to take on a life of its own with changes made for each Generation (game period).
Subscriptions? How much? What do I get out of it? What do YOU get out of it? We'll be adding Paypal subscriptions at some point after we work out the kinks in the automated systems. How much? We haven't decided yet, but it'll be relatively cheap. If you play Haven War, you'll enjoy a couple extra turns every day. You'll also have the option to remove the ads, and have the warm fuzzy feeling that you're helping us (and hopefully your gaming community) with your subscription. What do we get out of it? Well, money to maintain the site and hopefully move it to a dedicated server at some point.
Have a question not covered here? Send a Site Mail to Haven, or click the email link in the bottom left of the page.
Thank you for visiting! Tell your friends - we don't advertise very much, so word of mouth is our friend right now.
